Over the past several years the Zooniverse Chimp&See project has made tremendous progress with the help of their volunteers. They’ve tackled many sites, classifying and tagging hundreds of thousands of videos. The team and their moderators cleaned up a lot of the open animal and bird identifications, revised and improved their cheat sheets and field guides, and added many helpful video tutorials on everything from classifying to chimp matching. To date, the project has identified 2,350 individual chimpanzees and named ~1,000. (Naming is reserved for chimps that have been found twice or more).

But the project is far from finished! They have a ton of data for their current site and would really appreciate and benefit from your help!

All of this great work is done by volunteers who contribute their time and talents to the project. A big thank you to all of you who are part of the C&S family already! Would you like to become a part of it too? Or maybe you know Chimp&See already, but haven’t been on it for a while? Just head on over to chimpandsee.org

At the current site of study (called Florid Postern), you’ll find a lot of interesting and funny baboons,  hyraxes (who are masters of camouflage), nocturnal genets, pretty Patas monkeys, the occasional chimp and leopard, and many more species. Calling all birders! Did you know that Chimp&See is also a birder’s paradise? You’ll find many in the 15-second videos. Their bird guide includes ~130 confirmed species they’ve encountered at their sites so far!

Chimp&See holds something for every nature lover. Plus the satisfaction of contributing to chimpanzee conservation. We look forward to seeing you at chimpandsee.org. Thank you and have fun!
