Poor One-Eyed Riley

Recently the log books from the USS Rodgers, covering its final voyage in 1881, were published on naval-history.net. The logs were transcribed by volunteers on our Old Weather project. You can browse the names and ranks of all the crew, the route the ship took, and the events from each day up until the 30th November 1881 when sadly it caught fire and sank in St Lawrence Bay. The crew made it off safe, but tragically the ship’s dog ‘One-Eyed Riley’ did not make it. He went down with his ship.

Have a look at the transcribed logs here, and have a go at uncovering some history yourself at www.oldweather.org
