Studying youth participation on the Zooniverse

The LEARNCitSci team at their 2018 meeting at the Natural History Museum, London.

Over the last year the Zooniverse has been part of a collaboration between UK and US researchers studying youth participation in citizen science. The LEARNCitSci team are especially interested in youth volunteers gain knowledge and science agency through their involvement in online and offline environmental citizen science projects. So far we have already looked at the participation of over 100 consenting youth volunteers on Zooniverse projects, and going forward we plan to learn more by running surveys and actually speaking directly to some of our youth volunteers. Through this research the Zooniverse will get a better understanding of youth volunteers on the platform and gain valuable insights into how to tailor projects to better suit youth engagement.
