This Thursday (Aug 6) at 1pm ET Dr. Andrew Morrison, lead of the Zooniverse Steelpan Vibrations project, will give a public virtual talk about how they’ve been using people-powered research to understand the physics of how Caribbean steelpans vibrate and why they have their characteristic sound.
The graphic shows an example of the classifications that Zooniverse participants have made to identify patterns in the frames taken from high speed videos of the vibrating steelpan. In the talk Dr. Morrison will describe how they’ve used the Zooniverse community’s classifications in a machine learning algorithm to take the analysis to the next step.
