Uncoordinated Worms

Some of the worms studied as part of the Worm Watch Lab project are not able to move normally. For example, take a look at the movement of the guy in this video

Why are scientists interested in the uncoordinated worms? Well, their clumsiness is actually due to a genetic mutation and studying them will help us understand how the genes that lead to uncoordination work. The fortunate thing for the scientists is that these worms are self-fertilising hermaphrodites, which means the do not rely on male-female interactions in order to reproduce. Which would probably cause real problems for these uncoordinated mutants!
