One of the Zooniverse’s new launch projects, Galaxy Zoo: Bar Lengths, involves studying the lengths of stellar bars in galaxies to estimate their age and learn about their evolution. In the gold-hued galaxy above, you can see an excellent example of a stellar bar… the nearly horizontal colored stroke through the center of the galaxy. That’s a bar; that’s what we’re looking for!
Plus, this galaxy appears to be merging with a nearby blue-hued friend, as well.
