Almost 100 years ago, on Christmas 1915, British troops in France (in this case, specifically, the 3rd Cavalry Division in France) received this message from King George V. The 3rd had fought in brutal battles at Ypres and Loos that year, and must have been freezing in the trenches. Hopefully a holiday message from their sovereign brought a bit of light to their otherwise miserable situation.
