In George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, and its TV adaptation Game of Thrones, “dragonglass” is the common name for what we call obsidian. It is best-known for its ability to slay the eldritch and zombie-like White Walkers that come out of the frozen North.
Northern Kenya, the site of the images from Fossil Finder, is not frozen, nor does it have White Walkers, but it does apparently have “dragonglass!” Classifiers spotted a piece in this photo, and team member Dr. Adrian Evans has confirmed, adding: “It’s the first time I’ve seen a piece in these pictures!”
