We’ve just launched our newest project – Supernova Hunters – and it’s already resulted in loads of discoveries! During the beat test phase our volunteers discovered 21 new supernova candidates that were submitted to the Transient Name Server and found many already known transients. They were also able to recover about 87% of the known asteroids in the dataset. Which all means that the project seems to be working very well thanks to your classifications!
With the official launch today we have about 4,500 new subjects to classify. This data hasn’t been seen before, so you could be the first to find a new supernova! We will aim to upload new data to the project every Tuesday and keep you updated with new discoveries as we go.
