Since today is election day in the US, I thought I’d do something topical. This page from Science Gossip shows a note outlining the budget for an election in the English market town of Wooton Bassett, in which some 237 voters were to be paid £30 each for their participation!

The page also shows a note about people in the town of Devizes opposing the small pox vaccination in 1761. How things have changed…
