This brilliant image really shows how the crowd consensus works on Zooniverse projects. In all projects we ask a number of volunteers to complete the task for each image shown. This picture shows the results for one image shown on the Etch a Cell project. In Etch a Cell 30 separate volunteers are asked to trace the shape of the nuclear envelope of a cell in an image from an electron microscope. As you can clearly see, most of the volunteers had a really good go at it, however one volunteer was not so enthused about the task in hand. Their attempt can be easily discounted when the researchers are aggregating the data, and the result from all the lines is just a perfect trace of the cell’s nuclear envelope.
The Zooniverse team would like to thank everyone who has helped out, and please don’t worry if you make a mistake; the crowd has your back! We hope you don’t all hate it…
Oh, this is brilliant indeed! Should be presented in all project Guides as an example to show there’s really no need to worry about being ‘incorrect’ when classifying and to help encourage guessing! 😀
Actually, this is just too funny !
