A recent data release showed that since the launch of Call of Duty 4 in 2007 the total amount of time spent by humans playing Call of Duty adds up to 2.85 million years! That boils down to about 10,000 years per week. For comparison I recently calculated the average amount of time spent across all Zooniverse projects in any given week is about 1 year. That’s still amazing, and there are many scientists around the world who could not have done their work without that effort from our volunteers. However, just think what we could accomplish as a civilisation if we could raise citizen science involvement to the level of Call of Duty!
