The Man on the Sun

Thanks to one of our amazing volunteers, today I leaned the word ‘pareidolia’. It is the phenomenon of seeing seemingly significant or recognisable structure in random data, e.g. clouds shaped like animals, or the Man on the Moon. In the above image from Sunspotter the upper right part of the sunspot group looks like a face. I recently posted an other example of this phenomenon from the Milky Way Project. Time to start a collection!
